Anthropic, PBC, one of the newest components of the Prime Unicorn Index for Q1 2024, is an artificial intelligence (AI) company founded by former members of OpenAI. The company develops general AI systems and large language models with a focus on ethical principles. One of its notable products is Claude, an AI model designed to be helpful, honest, and harmless, with constitutional training to adhere to a set of desired principles.
Anthropic was last valued at $4.62 billion following a $450 million Series C round in May 2023. Investors include Spark Capital, Google, Salesforce Ventures, and Sound Ventures. According to Reuters, the company is rumored to be in talks to raise $750 million at a $18.4 billion valuation in a round led by Menlo Ventures, though this is not yet reflected in the Index.
