The Prime Unicorn Index™ is a modified market cap price return index that measures the share price performance of U.S. private companies valued at $1 billion or more. The index provides empirical data to asset managers and financial advisors interested in tracking today’s private capital markets. The index is designed for use in the creation of financial products and as a performance benchmark.

*The Prime Unicorn Index was updated from an “equal weighting” to a “modified market cap” weighting methodology as of July 1, 2020. All references to “Prime Unicorn Index” subsequent to July 1, 2020 will reflect the modified market cap methodology.

Who can invest

in the Index?

  • Investment opportunities are available for both Institutional and Accredited Investors.

  • Investors who already own shares in the underlying component companies (i.e. VC fund managers, Family Offices, Asset Managers) or who are Limited Partners in the funds that invested into the Index companies, may want to hedge their investments by taking a short position.

  • Wealth Managers, Asset Managers, Private Banks, can get net exposure to the Pre-IPO private companies by taking a long position.
